Thumbs up to reruns of the TV show The New Adventures of Old Christine. That show cracks me up!

 

Thumbs down to those people that take their job so seriously that they become a complete witch! So here is the story - sorry it's gonna be long. On days that I don't sub, I help a friend with her catering business. This past week we drove out to the clients business just to check out how the set up is going to go. When we drove up to the facility the security gate was open. There was no sign, stop, instructions or otherwise. So we proceeded to drive in and park. It turns out that was a big NO NO! We were greeted accosted at the front door by the security WITCH! We were instantly told that we were supposed to press the button. I asked, "What button?"...duh, I should have known, the one at the security gate (the one with no sign!). I responded by saying that the gate was open and she said, "That doesn't matter, our policy is to press the button". My logical response was, "There wasn't a sign saying we had to press the button" (now remember the gate is OPEN...it is still OPEN as she is reprimanding us). She proceeded to sternly tell us that the policy is to press the button. At this point I had to bite my tongue not to come back with the smarta** response that was ready to come spewing out. She finally asked us why we were there and we told her that we had an appt with our contact. She held the door open for us and said in her best general voice, "Stand by my desk and don't move!". We walked in and stood at the desk. My friend handed her our card. The witch then called our contact and this is what she said on the phone, "Are you expecting someone?", not Sherry is here for your appointment...really, did she really think we were trying to sneak in? When the monster guard finally hung up the phone she said, "Go sit over there, and don't move!" Needless to say, after our meeting with our contact, we told on her! She is going to get talked to :) Though I have a feeling we might get stripped searched when show up for the event.

Thumbs up to the great post Hope King did (from 2nd grade Shenanigans) called Give Me A...BEAK! Her kids had a blast trying to pick up and break open food that birds would eat using only tools and instruments that resembled bird beaks. I would have loved to be in Hope's class on that day...how fun!

Yearn to Learn has a Thumbs up art project called Whimsical Tree Art. They turned out awesome! You should go on over and take a look.

If you are starting to get ready for test prep then you don't want to miss what Mor shared on her blog A Teacher's Treasure. The blog post is called Test Prep Workshop and she goes over everything she did to make - the oh so boring - test prep fun and moving! This is a definite Thumbs up post that may give you some great ideas!

Thumbs up to Amanda over at A Very Curious Class and her post about their Family Math Night. It looks like a great time was had by all...I love it!!

Thumbs down to stores that don't ever call for a back up person to the registers when there is a long line. Last week I was in line with 1 person in front of me with a pile of clothes, and about 6 people behind me...one person ringing. When I finally asked for her to call someone else to the register she said there was no one, even though there were about 4 people roaming the floor...are you kidding me?

Thumbs down to the nasty accident I had...it doesn't look too bad does it? Just kidding, my daughter was practicing her make up skills :) She is getting pretty good, if I do say so myself!

Brittany from The SuperHERO Teacher's Adventures and Advice has a Thumbs up post called Today's Topic: Organization.  Brittany shares a genius DIY calendar using a cheap picture frame and paint chips...so cute!

Thumbs up to Crystal at Kreative in Kinder for her super cute post called Q &U Wedding. She shares some great pictures of all the activities her kids did during this fun day. I wish I could have been a part of all the festivities!


Kathy Griffin from Kathy Griffin's Teaching Strategies shared a great post called Dr. Seuss Fun Picture App. She has found and shared this super fun app that will have your students all excited for Read Across America Day. This is a must read post and app, a definite Thumbs up!

Thumbs up to my friend Kathie Wainwright from Diary of a Not So Wimpy Teacher, and the launch of her new book. She is having a 10 day virtual book tour for her book Summer in The City. Thumbs up to my daughter for being picked to be the front and center ballerina in their upcoming recital. She has worked so hard and that hard work is finally paying off. We are so proud and she is SOOO excited!

Thumbs down to Downton Abbey season 3 being over and season 4 not starting till January of 2014...ugh!


Thumbs down to 2nd graders not knowing how to tie their shoes because mommy always does it for them.

 Thumbs down to the auto correct on phones. The story behind the picture. We were going to the desert over the 3 day weekend to go camping and dirt bike riding. My oldest daughter and husband left Friday and Madison and I were leaving Saturday morning. I told them to text me to bring anything they forgot. This text message came from my  18 year old daughter. Needless to say, I cracked up!

I found some great posts this past week, I hope I share something you haven't seen yet :)

My first Thumbs up goes to Amanda from A Very Curious Class and her post called Kindergarten Writing Makes Me Smile. I love the book she used and her students' writing is adorable. Go see the hard work her kiddos have produced.

Jen from the Go To Teacher has a Thumbs up post called My Inquiry Into Conferring. She has SOOOO many great ideas and examples, that whether you are an old pro at conferring or struggling through, you just might pick up that certain something that you didn't know you were missing!

Sea Bear's Kindergarten has a fantastic post called Classroom Management using Post-Its and a Cell Phone. Many times you have a classroom behavior system that works great and then all of a sudden it doesn't really mean much to the students. This post by Christina will give you one more sure fire way to tame that behavior...a definite Thumbs up!


Thumbs up to my peaceful mornings as I take my 2 mile walk...it is such a wonderful way to start my day!

Thumbs down to the price of gas! Why is it so high? What is it in your area?

Thumbs down to those teachers that "just don't feel like teaching" something. My daughter's English teacher decided to just show the movie The Great Gatsby because she just didn't feel like teaching it. Madison started the year excited at the thought of getting to read this book, now she is on her own if she really wants to read it.
